New Anime Rolling Your Way

As is always the case, there's been plenty of acquisition announcements this week during Anime Expo...

Here's some of the highlights:

FUNimation announced the English dub cast for the new Slayers Revolution. The new cast features some old Slayers' favorites, including Lisa Ortiz as Lina, Veronica Taylor as Amelia, Eric Stuart as Gourry and Crispin Freeman as Zelgadis. The voice of Xellos will be done by Michael Sinterniklaas.

FUNimation also announced the acqusition of Sands of Destruction from SEGA of America and the original series, El Cazador De La Bruja.

From elsewhere in the convention room, VIZ Media announced that it had acquired rights to the live-action Century Boys film trilogy as well as the theatrical premier of Bleach the Movie 2: The DiamondDust Rebellion on August 18th and 19th. Tickets go on sale on July 31, 2009 - visit VizCinema.com.

Miyazaki to Screen 'Ponyo' At Comic-Con

If you have plans to be in San Diego for the upcoming Comic-Con (their 40th anniversary by the way), this might just be a choice year to attend. In addition to all of the great guests, vendors and other goodies they regularly feature, word has it that none other than Hayao Miyazaki himself will be attending to screen clips from his soon-to-release film Ponyo.

Joost Streams No More

One of the original video-streaming companies - Joost - has decided to bow out of the consumer-oriented streaming venue and instead focus its efforts on commercial projects in need of online video services.

Unable to compete with Hulu and Crunchyroll (anime), Joost will re-establish itself as a technology services provider. The change is expected to result in a layoff of less than 100 employees.
